I am a rescue advocate, first and foremost. But I understand that breeders are part of the dog ecosystem. It is important for the dog community to uphold safe practices, whether it is in the breeding community, or the rescue community. There are bad people on both sides, and we must be aware and educated.
If you are looking to purchase a dog via a breeder, please be aware of the signs and buy responsibly. Bad breeders range from amateurs who do it recklessly (which can lead to serious health and behavioral challenges, not to mention the exploitation of moms), all the way to puppy mills that are hell on earth for doggies.
It is my opinion that some breeds are grossly exploited, even by responsible breeders. That includes popular breeds like the Boston Terrier, English Bulldog and French Bulldog, who require C-section in almost all pregnancies, and have a litany of health issues.
