ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE WRITES LETTERS FROM A SHELTER DOG'S PERSPECTIVE
I asked an Artificial Intelligence text generator to create letters that a shelter dog would write to their previous family. It was incredible to see how the software handled the complex emotions of such situation, while balancing the intricacies of the dog-human bond. You might want to grab a tissue for this one!
Please note that this experiment was in no way meant to shame people who surrender their animals to the shelter. I am a strong believer that we should try not to judge people who find themselves in those situations. Things are always more complex than they appear, and I have heard too many heartbreaking stories of people who found themselves having no choice. More often than not, surrendering a pet is the right thing to do, and many people do it because they love their pet dearly. Shaming anyone puts animals at risk, who might be dumped in the streets instead.
I just thought it would be interesting to see how AI would interpret that situation. This experiment is about what the dog might feel, as seen by a computer. It is not about the owners, their situation or flaws.
I then prompted the software to modify the letter slightly, to intensify some emotions: sadness, anger, and finally happiness.
